Florida youth volunteer
screening requirements
Level 2 screening required for youth athletic coaches as of July 1, 2026.
Private, nongovernmental entities that organize, operate, or coordinate youth athletic teams in Florida must conduct a Level 2 background screening on every current and prospective athletic coach before that person has direct contact with minor athletes. The definition of coach is broad: head coaches, assistant coaches, managers, and referees, whether paid or volunteer. Level 2 means fingerprint-based screening, not a name-only database search.
